FIS has the largest R&D unit in Italy, with 250 scientists.

The FIS R&D Group combines innovation and efficiency of operations by acquiring a strong understanding of the process and developing the controls to ensure a robust manufacturing process.

Our integrated teams of chemistry and analytical resources have the ability to manage multiple projects in various phases of development. Our R&D core activities range from synthetic route definition, through-process development, and implementation at a multi-kg scale, while utilizing modern process modeling techniques and a “Quality by Design” (QbD) approach in our state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment.

R&D Team & Capability

  • Organization by project phase: early and advanced project phases, toll manufacturing, and post-validation process improvement projects.
  • Enhanced teams to efficiently manage the validation of analytical methods along with specialty teams that focus on flow chemistry, biocatalysis, and peptides.
  • Access to PAT, crystallization-monitoring technologies, solid state analysis, biotransformation, and flow processes to support development of thorough process knowledge.
  • New HPAPI Lab and KiloLab.
  • New R&D labs for fluorination chemistry.
